University of Ghana records four armed robbery cases

Accra, Dec. 2, GNA - The University of Ghana, Legon recorded four armed robbery and 18 theft cases from January to June this year. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Amadu Salifu (Rtd), Head of Security Services of the university who made the crime statistics available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said thieves also broke into 10 houses during the period under review.

Assault and loitering attracted eight cases, 17 cars were broken into while departmental thefts numbered seven. ACP Salifu said there were two sexual offences and two cases of causing harm and damage. Fraud and forgery recorded seven cases and another seven for motor accidents.

ACP Salifu said the crime wave on campus had reduced drastically due to the strict vigilance of the university community as well as the security measures taken by his outfit. He asked the community to inform the security services of any suspicious character on campus.

ACP Salifu advised visitors not to display items like bags, laptops and other belongings in their parked cars in order to attract thieves. He said anybody in distress should contact personnel of the security service on 0302 500183 for prompt action. In a related development the Legon District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Frank A. Anning told the GNA that the university security services presented 42 criminal cases during the period out of which 21 cases were prosecuted. 2 Dec. 10
