University of Ghana takes delivery of Chinese books for Chinese course

Accra, April 30, GNA - The Chinese Embassy in Ghana on Thursday donated about 600 books to the University of Ghana towards the introduction and study of Chinese language in the country.

The books, which cover various aspects of ancient and modern China, range from philosophy, history, politics, economy, culture and arts, religion, sports, medicine, geography and tourism. Dr. C.K.N Badasu of the Department of Modern Languages of the University received the books on behalf of the Authorities and expressed gratitude to the Embassy for the support.

He also thanked the Chinese government for introducing the Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Chinese language at the University of Ghana. He said the books would be an important part of the University Library, which he believed they would contribute to the teaching and learning of the Chinese language.

Giving an insight into the introduction of the Chinese course at the University, Dr Badasu said 200 students would be enrolled to pursue the course in the next academic year.

Mr JI Haojun, Chief of the Political Section of the Chinese Embassy, who presented the books, said the cultural exchange programme between China and Ghana played an important role to the improvement of the bilateral relations of the two countries. He said the increasing number of young Ghanaians wanting to learn Chinese would promote mutual understanding between the Chinese person and the Ghanaian.

Mr Ji pledged continuous support to the development of the Chinese course at the University of Ghana.
