The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Kwawuma Constituency, Dr. Kwadwo Appiah Kubi has lashed out at the judiciary saying it is the reason why various governments have failed in the fight against corruption in the country.
According to him, some judges have developed the habit of adjourning cases, thus unnecessarily retrogressing the fight against corruption.
“The fact is that we need to revamp our court system. Look at court processes like adjournment of cases. This is not the matter of the politician. It is our lawyers and judges who do that”. He told Nana Jantuah on Oyerepa Fm in Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
He argued that it will be very wise for the government to make sure it presents a better argument to the courts to win cases of corruption.
“If you don’t take care in presenting and getting hard evidence to bark your claims or reliefs, the court will throw your case out”, he warned.
The legislator’s comments come as a response to what the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has done so far concerning the fight against corrupt officials.
Explaining further, he noted that the three arms of government are independent therefore the President cannot dictate to the judiciary how certain cases should be treated in the law courts.
When asked if the court is responsible for the country’s failure to fight corruption affirmed “Yes, the court is responsible. They are the reason why some things are happening in the country. The police have been complaining about how the court has not been helping them in their job”.
He is of the view that Parliament can do something about the system but admitted that taking that step was a Herculean task.
