A group calling itself ‘Coalition of Unpaid Teachers’ has expressed dissatisfaction with government’s failure to address their concerns.
Members of the group, in a statement released yesterday, said that they decided to publicize their concerns because their numerous petitions had been ignored.
The affected people, who have appointment letters from the Ghana Education Service (GES), are over 500.
“We are calling on the media today because the Ministry of Finance has giving part of the unpaid teachers clearance for them to be given staff IDs, leaving a few of us behind because our names were not captured when the audit team came round for the exercise, meanwhile we were all present.”
They claimed that they had been working for years without salaries.
“We wish by this press statement to notify the public, especially the media fraternity, who have shown deep concern for our plight.”
“We, the affected people, sent the necessary documents to GES for their verification, however, it has been close to 5 months since the documents were presented and up to date we have not heard any good news from them.”
The group said, “After several follow ups, we have not been giving the right attention. On this note, we want to convey our intention to the media for the necessary rectification and verification.”
