Obuasi, Nov. 1, GNA - The upgrading of the Obuasi Government Hospital to meet the health care needs of the people in the Obuasi municipality is on course. Mr Felix Archer, the Health Services Administrator of the hospital told the Ghana News Agency that a number of projects had been lined up to improve facilities at the hospital.

He said a mortuary project being financed by the Obuasi Development Fund was under construction whilst work would soon start on children's ward. Mr Archer said the hospital would apply part of its internally-generated fund to put up a canteen complex and Out-Patient Department (OPD).

He said on completion of the dental clinic on which work was on-going, the hospital could now offer oral health services to the people. Despite these new developments, he said the hospital lacked diagnostic imaging equipment such as ultrasound scan and x-ray and appealed to well-meaning people and organisations to come to the aid of the hospital.

Mr Archer added that the hospital needed staff quarters to accommodate specialists like obstetricians and gynaecologists since the hospital needed to be critical with the services it rendered following the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He was thankful to the government for providing the hospital with an ambulance but said they needed staff bus to help the transport some of the health staff.

Mr Archer emphasised that the hospital had become a municipal hospital and that the public should assist to improve the facilities to merit the new status.
