Flood victims in the Upper East Region are to wait a day or two longer for relief items to get to them as they battle the harsh weather condition in the area.

So far 28 people have been killed by the floods which also displaced 600 others seeking shelter in schools and churches.

An emergency meeting held yesterday at the NADMO Headquarters resolved to dispatch relief items to the victims.

Speaking to Starr News, Communications Director of NADMO George Ayisi said the items will reach the victims by Saturday.

“Today they are loading the trucks and tomorrow they’ll take off to the place. It’s a journey from Accra to Bolgatanga and then to the districts and so we hope that maximum by Saturday they should be there. We are sending rice, tomatoes, ration and of cause blankets and other things. We’ve already given some but we are adding more to go and support them.”

Areas affected by the flood include Kasina Nankana East and South, Builsa South, Bawku, Garu Timpane among others.

Lots of residents are fleeing the area to join their relatives in nearby communities. Several farms have also been submerged by the rains.
