Upper East Regional Minister tours BECE centres

Bolgatanga, June 4, GNA – Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari, the Upper East Regional Minister, on Monday toured some examination centres of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and wished the students well.

The Regional Minister was accompanied by Mrs Patricia Ayiko, the Regional Director of Education, and Mr Elvis Apam, the Regional Examinations Officer.

This year, the Region registered 21,140 candidates, which included 10,432 males and 10,708 females from 563 schools of which 477 are public schools while 86 are private schools with 83 examination centres.

The Regional Minister, who commended the teachers for their selfless dedication, told the pupils that they formed the country’s future human resources hence the need to attend to the examination with the needed seriousness.

Mr Bukari said the BECE formed the basis of any professional career and urged the candidates to make the region proud.

The Regional Education Officer, advising the pupils against examination malpractices, said any candidate who would be disqualified from writing due to indiscipline would have his or her future truncated.

Mrs Ayiko reminded the students on the need to return in three weeks time to their various schools after the examination to select schools of their choice for SHS placement.
