Bolgatanga, Nov. 12, GNA- The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mahami Salifu, on Tuesday urged members of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) to share their rich experiences, as well as good qualities of hard work, patriotism, discipline and perseverance with the younger generation.

He said a lot of indiscipline among the youth is largely responsible for the increasing incidence of armed robbery, teenage pregnancy, the spread of HIV/AIDS and low productivity in the economy. He, therefore, urged veterans to show concern in the affairs of the youth and educate them on the values of good moral standards and other virtues that are critical for propelling the country towards the path of progress and prosperity.

These were contained in a speech read for the Regional Minister by Mr. Paul Allou, his special assistant, at a parade held in Bolgatanga to mark the 57th Remembrance Day anniversary of the First and Second World Wars.

He said the veterans should also organise regular durbars to make meaningful inputs into debates on national policies and programme since the government will welcome their wise counsel in the national reconstruction effort.

The parade, which was mounted by the security services and ex-servicemen, comprised one officer and 40 other ranks drawn from the Police, Fire Service and the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS).

November 11 every year, is set aside to remember the gallantry exhibited by personnel of the West Africa Frontier Force (WAFF) in the Second World War.

The occasion was climaxed by the laying of wreaths. One wreath each was laid on behalf of the Government, the security services, the traditional authorities and the VAG.
