Upper East to deal with falling standards of education

Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh, outgoing Upper East Regional Minister, has inaugurated a seven-member committee charged to streamline and strategise to improve on falling standards of education in the region.

He said education is a right and, therefore, requires stakeholders to put in place prudent and workable measures to improve on the sector.

The members of the committee include Alhaji Abdulai Abubakar, Chairman, and representing Regional Coordinating Council, Mrs. Rose Akanson, an official of Ghana Education Service in charge of Girls’ Education in the region, Mr. Samuel Ofori Boakye of Link Community Development; a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and Mr. Madison Amokase, Chief Inspector of Schools.

The others are Mr. Richard Amoah from Afrikids Ghana, an NGO, Mrs. Lydia Adeeduk, a representative of Ghana National Association of Teachers, and Mr. George Abugre, Regional Secretary, National Association of Graduate Teachers.

The inauguration took place at a time when stakeholders in education in the region, referred to as Complimentary Basic Education Alliance, are planning to hold a Regional Education forum in Bolgatanga.

Dr. Nsoh said the inauguration of the committee was timely since it would generate ideas to facilitate the forum, which would be fed into a Regional Development Strategy to serve as a guide for development.

He expressed the hope that the calibre of expertise constituting the committee would yield the expected results.

Dr. Nsoh asked the members to be modest in their financial dealings and be realistic with budgets allocated for the forum slated for the month.
