Asesewa (E/R), Oct. 10, GNA - Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, Upper Manya District Chief Executive (DCE), has denied media reports that he was assaulted by foot soldiers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during a mob action.

"I wish to state that I have not been attacked by anybody or the foot soldiers of my party- the National Democratic Congress in my district," he maintained.

Mr Angmor was speaking to the Ghana News Agency, in reaction to the publication which appeared in an Accra daily on Thursday, October 7. He recalled that about 1730 hours on October 4, a road accident occurred at Mensah Dawa, a farming community on the Asesewa -Koforidua main road, in the district, leading to the death of two children on the spot.

Mr Angmor said the incident apparently enraged the residents of the town who took the law into their hands and blocked the road with boulders and tree branches.

He said the youth who wielded pick axes, cutlasses and clubs threatened mayhem to anybody who intervene.

The DCE said NDC foot soldiers were not part of the mob action. He said he visited the community to sympathise with the bereaved families and visited the mob to help to calm down tempers and warned them about the consequence of their action.

Mr Angmor said when he could not break the stalemate, he left the adamant youth without anyone touching or insulting him and informed the police to go to the scene to maintain law and order. He said he later received a report that the mob had assaulted the NDC Constituency Organiser, Mr Ebenezer Kpaatey who was travelling through the accident spot.

The DCE said the Area Manager of Plan Ghana, Mr Joseph Appiah was also beaten up and lost a tooth in the process.

"Indeed, the mob attacks were directed at people found driving private car who passed through the village," he said. Mr Angmor said the driver of the vehicle that knocked the two children was arrested while the car had been impounded.

Meanwhile the police has arrested one of the culprits pending further investigation. 10 Oct. 10
