The Upper West Regional Secretariat of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (G.P.R.T.U) has partnered the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to hold series of educational programmes and activities for drivers to be cautious on the road.

The joint action by the transport union with the Regional Road Safety Commission culminated in several re-orientation workshops being organised for 1,042 drivers on road safety measures to ensure security of both passengers and pedestrians in the region.

Alhaji Nuhu Mahama, the Regional Senior Industrial Relations Officer of G.P.R.T.U. told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Wa on Monday that both drivers and porters were taken through excellent customer service and care including; driver-passenger relationship.

“The drivers and porters were taken through areas like; human relations, how to approach a customer, how to take care of the customer, safety precautions and among others,” he added.

The transport union has the mandate, per their constitution, to empower its drivers to have basic ethics that border on customer care, driving and road safety.

Alhaji Mahama cautioned drivers to adhere to basic road safety regulations in order to help minimise road accidents and ensure passenger safety as the Ramadan (fasting) festive season begins this week.

"As part of the preventive measures adopted by the Union, 1,042 drivers were covered in a road safety and customer service training in the region which lasted for two month," he added.
