The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has distributed about 2000 pieces of mathematical sets to some Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates within the constituency.

The distribution exercise was to show support as well as motivate the Junior High School (JHS) students who were feverishly preparing ahead of their exams which starts on Monday.

At a brief presentation ceremony held in Accra at the Dansoman ‘B’ cluster of schools on Friday, June 7, 2019, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ablekuma West, George Cyril Bray who made the presentation on behalf of the MP encouraged the students to strive harder towards achieving their dreams of living a prosperous life.

He advised them not to be deterred by their social background since education has the propensity to change the status of people within society.

Mr Bray also challenged students to lift the image of the constituency high by performing creditably well in the exams so as to benefit from the Free Senior High School initiative as well as gain access to the best schools in the country.

“If you are able to jump this hurdle, your mother or father will not suffer to take you to SHS before of free SHS policy,” he said.

Speaking in an interview with journalists, Ekow Hammond, a teacher at the Dansoman 6 Basic School expressed confidence in the readiness of the candidates to adequately write the exams.

He noted that the pedagogy of JHS schools in the public sector usually conditioned the students to excel beyond writing their BECE.

“Initially when they go to SHS, they have that problem of inferiority complex especially against those coming from private schools. But along the line they tell the others that they are not cheap” he said.

The ceremony was graced by community leaders, teachers from beneficiary schools and officials from the Municipal Assembly.
