Government has been urged to be meticulous and use modern approach to clamp down the activities of illegal miners in the country to avoid landing the state into huge judgment debt.
While lauding government plans to clamp down illegal mining, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Rob Mining Company in the Ashanti Region has cautioned government on possible law suit if it goes ahead to use crude method in driving away the miners.
“Government should be meticulous with intent plan to destroy equipment the miners use to execute their work to avoid judgment debts “, he warned
According to Mr Owusu Bempah, the presidential task force set by the past government destroyed billions of mining equipment which later landed the state in the law courts and damages awarded against the state.
After commissioning of a three kilometre road at Madaa in Atwima Mponua District of Ashanti Region as part of Company’s cooperative social responsibility, the CEO exclusively told mynewsgh.com that both legal and illegal mining in the country must regulated by the government to save the environment from further destruction.
He warned of dire consequences if government chooses to take the law into itself to destroy property belonging the persons operating with or without license.
To this end, he indicated that it is necessary government educates the people about the negative implications of mining on the environment before action be could taken to eradicate the canker.
