Accra,(Greater Accra) 21 Oct. An Accra circuit court is hearing a case in which a church usher, is alleged to have beaten up a colleague for reporting to church elders that she had been stealing from church collection. Victoria Yankyerah, 29, a trader, pleaded not guilty to causing harm to Miss Selina Yamoah, the colleague and is on a 500,000 cedis bail to reappear on October 23. The prosecution told the court that the accused, Miss Yamoah and four other members of the Word Miracle International Church at Kwame Nkrumah Circle check collections at the end of every service and hand them over to the treasurer. In January, Miss Yamoah, refused money given to her as her share of the stolen church collection and later reported the matter to an elder of the church. The prosecution said the accused took offence and mercilessly beat her up until she started bleeding from the nose and ears. She had a broken jaw. Miss Yamoah was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching hospital for treatment after which she made a report to the police.
