Ho, Sept. 19, GNA- Media practitioners should mount a campaign against military takeovers, Mr. Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, the Volta Regional Minister, said on Thursday.

"Media Practitioners should join in the mainstream public crusade against political armed robbery,'' he said.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa said this at a reception the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) organised for media practitioners in the region in acknowledgement of their role in nation building.

He said media practitioners should not engage in any omission or commission that will provide ''a window of opportunity for men whose only mark of distinction is their blood-dyed political credentials.'' The Regional Minister appealed to the media to be relentless and ruthless in their collective fight against detractors and uphold their professional ethics of truth telling.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa urged the Journalists to distinguish between facts, comments and opinions in their reportage.

The Regional Minister appealed to them to refrain from trespassing into the private life of public office holders since such intrusive publications under the ambit of public interest tends to ridicule the victims.

He called for streamlining the activities of the quacks to forestall the credibility of the profession.

Mr Tim Dzamboe, the Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), said the media should be resourced to enable it to perform its role in nation building and promote democracy. He said media landscape is becoming buoyant and needs a new thinking and direction to deepen constitutionalism.
