Breaking....The Press boycotted the News conference, because the VRA chairman and his entourage were about 2 hours late

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Volta River Authority has called a press conference scheduled for today - Monday. The press conference, which will also be addressed by other members of the board, will be used to address concerns about VRA’s ability to supply electricity all year round and media reports about the relationship between staff of the VRA and the Chief Executive, Dr Charles Wereko Brobbey.

Among their numerous complaints, staff of the VRA are accusing Charles Wereko-Brobbey of arbitrarily dismantling the Management Information Systems (MIS) Department and relocating hordes of its computers to the staff canteen. After removing the computers, the former Presidential candidate turned government Energy Adviser has reportedly turned the MIS office into an executive bathroom for himself.

Questions have also been raised by staff about two advisors to the Chief Executive who are each paid monthly salaries of 10.5 million cedis. VRA staff also have suspicions about the contracts awarded for the renovation of the VRA headquarters building in Accra and the revamping of VRA subsidiaries.

Some VRA officials have dismissed claims by the Chief Executive that the company is capable of providing power for the nation relying on the Aboadze thermal plant in Takoradi. They told JOY FM that Dr. Brobbey refuses to heed field officers’ advise about the continued use of the Akosombo hydroelectric dam despite low water inflow.
According to them, a prudent measure would be to adopt a load shedding exercise to sustain power supply in the face of high costs for running the Aboadze thermal plant. All these issues are expected to be addressed by board chairman, Ken Ofori-Atta when he meets the press on Monday.
