The Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy has summoned the officials of the Volta River Authority (VRA), GRIDCO, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Energy Commission to answer questions on recent power crisis the country is facing.

Citi FMs’ Richard Sky reports that the summon is to enable the Committee find out “exactly what the problems are within the sector and what measures they are taking to address the problem which has led to VRA, ECG and GRIDCO shedding power.”

Recent media reports have indicated possible conflicts between the various providers within the power sector over who is to blame for the challenges being faced in the energy sector.

According to Richard Sky, the Committee will also investigate the challenges facing stakeholders “in terms of resource allocation that may not be forth coming and creating the sort of problems we have in the sector.”

The Committee is being chaired by the Hon. Kwabena Donkoh and Hon. K.T. Hammond, a ranking member on the Committee.
