VRA Projects ?950 Billion Loss

Tue, 17 Jun 2003 Source: DG

The VRA has projected a net operational loss of ?950 billion this year.

The huge projected deficit is a result of the dependence on thermal generation and imports from Cote d’Ivoire owing to the low level of the Volta Lake.

Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Minister of Energy disclosed this in an interview in Accra. According to him, the VRA consumes $10million worth of Crude oil every six weeks to operate the Aboadze Thermal Plant.

He has, accordingly, advised workers of the authority to show comportment and decorum and realise that the VRA is a strategic national asset which no group or individuals will be allowed to toy with and hold the country to ransom.
