Accra, Oct. 7, GNA - The Volta River Authority (VRA), on Thursday advised communities living close to the Volta Lake Reservoir to relocate to safer areas following the rising inflows of water into the lake. A statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of VRA said inflows into the Volta Lake this year had been above average and, therefore, the Akosombo Reservoir would rise to a level, which had not been attained for the past 20 years.

"This means that the populations living around the perimeter of the Lake that have encroached and settled in areas below the 280 Ft NLD (Feet National Level Datum) contour could be inundated." The level of the Lake on Thursday was 272.80 feet, just under the maximum of 278 feet.

The statement said stakeholders in the following Districts which border the perimeter of the lake are advised to take the necessary action to avert any potential problems.

The Districts are West Gonja, East Gonja, Nanumba, Nkwanta, Kintampo, Atebubu, Krachi, Sene, Jasikan, Sekyere East, Hohoe, Afram Plains, Kpando, Asante-Akyem North, Kwahu South, Fanteakwa, Manya Krobo, Asuogyaman, Adidome, Dangbe West, Sogakope and Keta.
