Mr Sampson Ahi, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing has ordered encroachers on the 74-acre government land at Nsakina in the Greater Accra Region to vacate.

Individuals have encroached on the government land acquired for the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units at Nsakina.

“My Ministry will not relent in its efforts to protect its land from encroachment by individuals and has vowed to demolish all unauthorized building on the land very soon,” he warned.

Mr Ahi gave the final warning when he led a delegation from the various agencies, the Municipal Police Command, Ga West Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the area to inspect the extent of encroachment on the land.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Wednesday that the motive of the exercise was to remove all buildings on the land to protect it, since it is a national asset.

Mr Ahi bemoaned the attitude of some individuals who encroach upon government lands with impunity, adding that: “More houses in the area will spring up if the demolishing is not carried out.”

He said after repeated warnings to those encroachers to stop work, they remained adamant.

Mr Ali said government would not tolerate unnecessary chieftaincy disputes, because they slow down development and asked the chiefs to report the trouble-makers to the Police.

Mr Bernard Agumeh, Chief Executive Officer of Agu Resource Ghana Limited, told the GNA that, his company owned the land and was given to them by the Ministry from Adipoya Farms.

“We had the title to commence business while a Chinese company, Top International is also ready for the project,” and wondered why land guards believed to be hiding at Obeyeyie, a village near Nsakina, were delaying the project, he explained.

Mr Agumeh said another problem was the conditionality attached to the fund for the project, saying the undue delay, due to disputes would have a negative impact on the company.

Mr George Andrew Kumah, Municipal Police Commander said the work of the Police is to protect life and property and therefore they would enforce the laws when necessary.

He expressed their readiness to provide security for the execution of the demolishing to allow the contractors to commence work.
