Nadowli (U/W), Dec. 8, GNA Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday at Nadowli pleaded with people in the Upper West Region to have patience with government over the delay in the execution of the Wa Regional Hospital project. He said the project is at the heart of government and that government would do all it takes to source for funds to implement it.
He said government was looking for funding from Egypt to carry out constructional work on the project but recent political upheaval in that country had caused the delay.
Vice President Mahama was in the Upper West Region to launch the Ghana Social Opportunities Project at Nadowli, the project aimed at creating an all –inclusive and socially-empowered society through the provision of sustainable mechanisms for the protection of persons living in situation of extreme poverty and related vulnerability and exclusion.
The 89.1 million US dollars project would benefit 40 districts throughout the country out of which eight districts in the Upper West Region are beneficiaries.
The five year project is expected to provide assistance to 210, 000 people.
Vice President Mahama appealed to the Regional Coordinating Councils of the beneficiary districts to give serious attention to the implementation of the project through the monitoring and supervision so that resources of the project reaches its intended target groups.
Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, tasked district assemblies as well as district chief executives to be more vigilant to ensure that the project benefits the people.
He said the project was one of government’s social interventions to improve on the circumstance of the poor and vulnerable and appealed to them to take advantage of the project.
Other regions that are also going to benefit from the project include: Upper East, Northern, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions.
