Veep calls for peaceful selection of new Wa-Na

Wa, Sept. 12, GNA- Vice President Aliu Mahama, on Tuesday attended the seventh day Muslim funeral rites for the late Wa-Na, Yakubu Seidu Soale II at his palace at Wa.

He advised the royals of the Wala traditional area, the Tindambas and the Imams to come together to ensure a peaceful selection of a successor to the late Wa-Na Soale, whom he described as a symbol of peace and unity and development oriented.

Addressing the funeral gathering Vice President Mahama urged the people of the Wala traditional area to use the opportunity to unite themselves so as to allow everlasting peace and unity. He urged the people to turn their energies and resources in the fight against the monstrous common enemy of poverty instead of quarrelling among themselves

Vice President Mahama urged the people of the traditional area to learn to forgive each other as this was the only way they could live peacefully together as one people.

On behalf of the government, the Vice President made a donation of a cow, twelve crates of minerals and a cash of four million cedis toward the performance of the funeral.

The Guli-Naa, Seidu Braimah, who is the chief mourner expressed the gratitude of the bereaved family to the Vice President and the government for mourning with them and providing support for the family. He assured the government that, their royal gate, Naa Kpaha, one of the four royal gates of the Wala traditional area will cooperate with the king-makers in ensuring the nomination a worthy successor to the late chief.

He however, appealed to the king-makers to live above all forms of influences in getting the rightful person to succeed the late paramount chief.

The late wa-na died on Monday September 12.
