Veep expresses satisfaction with Wa street naming exercise

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has described the ongoing street naming exercise in Wa in the Upper West region as impressive and satisfactory.

He stated that if the house numbering exercise is done successfully, it could even make it possible for the Postal Service to deliver letters to people in their houses as being done in some of the neighboring countries.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur made the statement on Tuesday 23rd September 2014, when he inspected the ongoing street naming and house numbering exercise in the Wa Municipality as part of his working visit to the Upper West region.

He said it was important the streets were named after people who have made significant contribution towards the development of the region; thus, the project has started on a good note and hope that they would conclude with the numbering of the houses in the Municipality.

The project, which was initiated by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with the Wa Municipal Assembly, is to ensure proper street coding and house identification.

Mr Julius Debrah, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development explained that the street naming and house numbering exercise is to Google map the area so that officials at the Municipal Assembly can tell where a person’s house is located.

He added that the objective for the exercise is to ensure that all streets and houses in the municipality are numbered.

He said once the assembly has all the data of the streets and houses in the area, it would also help them to enhance their revenue mobilization.

Mr Issahaku Nuhu Putiha, Wa Municipal Chief Executive explained that the street naming and house numbering exercise is ongoing but what’s left is to translate the data collected from exercise into satellite images.
