Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur joined hundreds of mourners from all parts of Ghana at Seikwa where funeral of Obaapanin Hagar Akosua Afra, mother of Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was held.

Madam Afra, who died at 95, was born in Seikwa in 1919 in the Brong Ahafo Region to the late Nana Kwasi Kuma Tsobia, a farmer of the Gyaase Royal family, and Yaa Addae of the Akwamu Family, both of Seikwa.

Madam Afra, who was popularly known as Kwaafora, was survived by seven of her eight children, 41 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur, who led the government delegation, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur.

Other dignitaries present at the burial service were Dr Kwabena Adjei, Chairman of NDC, with National Executives of the NDC, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ambassadors.

The children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren paid solemn tributes to honour their departed loved one.

Pastor Kingsley Anokye of the Seikwa Circuit of the Pentecost Church, in a sermon, called on Christians to rededicate their lives to Christ by turning away from sins.

He said: “For it is appointed unto man to die once and after that judgment,” he quoted Hebrews 9:27. “Ghanaians must commit their lives to the Lord for him to keep their souls,” he said.

He said the late Madam Afra lived a meaningful life by insisting that the right thing was done no matter who was involved.

Mr Asiedu-Nketia, later on behalf of the family, thanked Ghanaians for the love and support they had showed the family since the mother died few months ago.
