Accra, June 9, GNA - Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama left Accra on Sunday night for a two-day official visit to the United Kingdom. He is to represent Ghana at the Heads of Government meeting of the Commonwealth to discuss reform of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in London from June 9-10.
The meeting would focus on practical steps which Commonwealth members states could take to achieve reform and coherence of global
institutions. Its three-part focus would be on the international financial institutions,
global environmental governance and the United Nations system. It is the first step in implementing the decision of the November 2007
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting at which leaders decided
to establish a small representative group from their 53-member
association to undertake lobbying and advocacy for the reform of
international institutions. Vice president Aliu is expected to return on Wednesday.
