Veep receives tumultuous welcome in Yendi

Yendi (N/R), Dec 20, GNA - The Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, on Wednesday received a tumultuous welcome at Yendi when he arrived in the Municipality on the last lap of his campaign tour to woo delegates to endorse him as the NPP presidential candidate.

The Yendi Municipality, where the Vice-President hails from, was thrown into frenzy with vehicles and motorcycles blaring their horns, the motorcyclists riding with careless abandon while the people ran along the Vice-President's convoy to catch a glimpse of him. The durbar ground was awash with NPP party colours while the youth exhibited different types of cultural dances with dexterity. When Vice President Mahama mounted the platform to deliver his speech, the crowd burst into cheers with the traditional drummers singing his praises and appellations.

The Vice-President urged the people to live in peace and unity, saying these were pre-requisites for any meaningful development. He said he had served faithfully under President John Agyekum Kufuor, gained a lot of experience and was now mature to take over the mantle of leadership.

He therefore urged the delegates to vote "one touch" for him to lead the NPP to victory in 2008.
