Accra, Oct 24, GNA - The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, returned from Rome, Italy on Sunday after taking part in the activities marking the 60th Anniversary of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Akwasi Agyei and the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Clement Eledi accompanied him.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs speaking to newsmen said the celebrations, was attended by 10 Heads of State and representatives of World organisations.
Hunger alleviation was the main issue discussed. He said Vice President Aliu used the opportunity to tell the forum about Ghana's efforts at ensuring food security and the role of women in the fight against hunger.
The Vice President also held separate meetings with the Director-General of the FAO, the President of the World Food Programme as well as officials of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Mr Agyei said Alhaji Aliu Mahama encouraged them to continue projects in Ghana especially in the area of irrigation. He also met a 30-man business delegation representing different business interests including those in the sectors of solar energy, communication, health, construction and Poultry and briefed them on investment opportunities in Ghana.
The Vice -President also met with the Ghanaian community in Rome. Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, Minister of Harbours and Railways and other government officials met the Vice President on arrival.
