Mr. John Jinapor, the Spokesperson for the Vice President, John Dramani Mahama has called off his hunger strike following the re-instatement of Asempa FM’s popular, hot and sizzling political talk show Enkosii Sen.

Mr. Jinapor declared the planned boycott of food and water over the weekend as a result of the decision by management of Multimedia Company, owners of Joy, Adom and Asempa FM among others to suspend the Enkosii Sen. But he now says he has changed his mind.

Speaking to the Ghana Palaver in an interview yesterday, a hearty Mr. Jinapor who appeared to have lost about two stones, due to the hunger strike, said the intervention of some religious and civil society groups including some opinion leaders has been extremely crucial.

He was particularly happy that following his strike action the management of Multimedia has rescinded its decision and reinstated the programme including an assurance that the host, Bobie Ansah would also return ‘on air’ soon to stir affairs.

He however chided the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA), the Christian Council and Kabral Blay Amihere’s National Media Commission (NMC), for failing to uphold freedom of speech and human rights of individuals where it matters most.

It would be recalled that over one hundred supporters of NPP last Wednesday besieged the premises of Asempa FM threatening to beat up an NDC panel member who they accused of raining insults on their flagbearer.

John Jinapor following that action declared the hunger strike on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji where he mourned the incident and described it variously as “very, very unfortunate”, a “dastardly act”, “very, very uncivilized and uncultured” as well as a “barbaric behavior”, explaining that he was waiting to see if the GJA would come out to condemn the act.

“Indeed if a quarter of this had happened with the other side, you would have heard the GJA, the association of lawyers and all those bodies issuing statements. You see, we must be consistent and we must practice good governance. I think that what happened there is terrible…,” he said.
