Veep seeks US expertise in agriculture production

Accra, Nov.10, GNA- Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Thursday called for US expertise to boost food production and Ghana's national School Feeding programme, which targets some two million pupils. He said agriculture was the mainstay of the country's economy hence the need to tackle productivity from the small, medium and large scale levels.

Vice President Mahama was speaking during his maiden meeting with newly appointed US Ambassador, Ms Pamela E. Bridgewater at the Osu Castle.

He said Ghana looked forward to the building of the capacity of the Police Service, especially in the combat of drug trafficking and the promotion of law and order.

Vice President Mahama commended the US for helping to equip the Ghana Armed Forces as well as the joint military exercises between the two countries.

He also lauded the world super power for being instrumental in Ghana's debt cancellation at the G-8 summit at Gleneagles in the UK and the package the country is receiving under the Millennium Challenge Account.

Vice President Mahama praised Ms Bridgewater for her appointment, adding that her immense experience in Africa should make her a good ambassador to Ghana and the rest of Africa.

Ms Bridgewater expressed the hope that her duty tour would deepen bilateral relations.
