Accra, Aug. 4, GNA- Vice President Aliu Mahama on Friday expressed dissatisfaction about the rising incidence of crime and tasked Ghanaians to throw their weight behind the security agencies to weed out those responsible for the anti-social acts.

He said the image of Ghana as a peaceful and stable country was being eroded by the bad nuts who were bent in fomenting trouble, hence the need for the citizenry to feed the security agencies with the needed information to save the situation.

Vice President was speaking when he paid a surprise visit to Apostle Michael Ntumy, Head of the Church of Pentecost Ghana at his Ridge residence where he is recuperating after armed men on a motorbike inflicted cutlass wounds on him.

He said the many innocent lives that were lost through such violent crimes would be minimised if basic security checks, such as the formation of community watchdog committees were encouraged in the communities.

Vice President Mahama wished Apostle Ntumy a speedy recovery saying: " I know you are a man of God and have a lot to do. I know your flock will like to see you soon." He also presented him with a get- well card.

Apostle Ntumy, also the President of Ghana Pentecostal Council said the attack was a signal that the leadership of the church must join in the fight against crime.

He was however, expressed optimism that the war against organised crime would be won since "good will always triumph over evil". Apostle Ntumy commended the Vice President for first calling him on the day of the incident to learn the extent of the harm to him and for coming physically to sympathise with him and his family.

"When you called me to express sympathy it helped to quicken the healing process," after he had shown his stitches and bruises to the Vice President.

Recalling the incident, he said, he was on his normal daily jogging around the vicinity when the two-armed men attacked him.

"My daughter shouted, they are killing daddy, they are killing daddy," which attracted attention, he said.
