Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has admonished the country’s leadership to shun materialism and be guided by ethical lessons of the word of God.

He made the call when he addressed the 50th anniversary of the Bible Society of Ghana on Sunday.

His advice come at a time when Ghana is dealing with alleged bribery and corruption in the judiciary.

“The first responsibility of the people who are in authority is to the people placed in their care. To fulfil this obligation, it is suggested that leaders must develop an attitude free of arrogance and not focus on material things,” he said.

He said one of the attributes of a good leader is taking difficult decisions, “that may not be unpopular in the short-term, but guarantee long-term viability”.

He therefore urged leaders in the country to turn to God for courage to take critical decisions.
