Following a cholera outbreak in the region, the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council (WRCC) has prohibited vegetable vendors from selling their products.
The region has recorded 789 suspected cases and 8 fatalities.
According to emerging reports, the number of daily reported cases has exceeded 60, with 95% of infections occurring in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan and Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal areas.
In a communiqué issued on December 10, the WRCC warned that violators of the ban would face prosecution under the Public Health Act of 2012 (Act 851).
The council urged residents to strictly adhere to the directive to help curb the spread of the disease.
“The ban will remain in place until public health officials confirm the safety of such practices,” the communiqué stated.
It also advised residents to properly treat vegetables purchased for domestic use before consumption.
