Accra, June 1, GNA 96 An eight-month-old baby and five others escaped death on Wednesday night when a Nissan Patrol vehicle with registration number GT 4222 T crashed into their bedroom at about 2300 hours while they were asleep.

Mr Ofori Larbi, a 44-year-old contractor, who was driving from St Theresa's School Junction at Swanlake towards the North Kaneshie Orgle Road, lost control of the vehicle, broke through a nearby church before crashing into the bedroom where the six were sleeping. The entrance of the church, International Christ Worship Centre, was broken while the front view of the bedroom was demolished. Mr Paul Sowah, a family member of the victims, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he heard an unusual noise while he was asleep and when he came out he saw to his dismay that the vehicle had crashed into the room of a relative.

He said the victims were assisted by some neighbours and one of them, Ms Emelia Ankrah, 20, who sustained minor injuries, was treated and discharged at a hospital.

Mr Sowah also told GNA that 3.2 million cedis was missing after the victims were rescued.

Chief Inspector Fatima Fuseini, of Accra West Police Division, confirmed the story and said preliminary investigations indicated that the driver was speeding.

She said the driver, who was assaulted by some neighbours after the accident, was receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
