Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has again failed to visit and pay homage to the Dakpema-naa, traditional chief of Tamale, as tradition requires for Northern and Upper regional tours.
The Chronicle?s investigations gathered that, the Dakpema-naa has this time around been unable to hide his bitterness about the Veep?s failure in recognising him as the head of the Tamale traditional authority as a result of his failure to visit his palace in his recent two visits to the Northern Region for two consecutive times in two months.
The Chronicle?s investigations further revealed that, the Veep is gradually losing popularity in the two upper regions and the Northern Region especially within the Tamale municipality as result of what most Tamale inhabitants refer to as his impotency and deliberate failure to actively aid the settlement of the Yendi crisis.
One traditional leader who prefers to remain anonymous told this reporter that, ?the Vice President is a son of Dagbon but has grossly failed his people, and in fact these politicians are being a thorn in our flesh. ?He must remember that his political position is only temporary and whether he likes it or not, he would someday descend from his position,? he concluded.
Another source had this to say, ?Most of us Northerners voted massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2000 elections only because the party chose a son of the Northern Region as the running mate of its flagbearer, President John Agyekum Kufuor.
?But however, the vice president has disappointed us enormously and most of us have lost confidence in him,? he said, adding, ?honestly, the vice president has failed to be a unifying force of Dagbon, but rather a factor of division.?
