Vice President Mahama back from Libya

Accra, April 30, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama returned home Thursday evening from Tripoli, Libya, after a three-day official visit to the country.

Briefing journalists on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Vice President Mahama said the visit was to express the appreciation of government of Ghana to President Muamar Al Quathafi of Libya for sending a delegation from Libya to the inaugural ceremony of the present administration.

Vice President Mahama said he discussed with the Libyan leader the revival of the joint commission on cooperation between Libya and Ghana and issues concerning the African Union (AU), adding that other matters of mutual interest were also deliberated on. Vice President Mahama said agricultural development was also discussed, resulting in Libya promising to send tractors to Ghana. He said the country pledged to assist in the training of experts for oil exploration in Ghana.

Vice President Mahama said they also deliberated on matters concerning the AU and the need to strengthen it as well as issues bothering on African unity. He said they also discussed the AU summit expected to be held in July in Libya or Mauritius.

The Vice President was met on arrival by government functionaries and officials from the office of the Vice President.
