Vice President Mahama returns from summit

Accra, July 22, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama, returned home last Tuesday night from Togo after attending the third Co-Prosperity Alliance Zone summit.

The alliance, which comprises Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana, seeks to foster cooperation amongst member countries through promoting social, political and economic development.

Briefing journalists at the Kotoka International Airport, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mohammed Mumuni said a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of the summit called for expedite action on ECOWAS sub-regional integration efforts. He said it was also agreed that Ghana and Nigeria should improve upon their energy supplies to neighbouring countries such as Benin and Togo.

Mr Mumuni said the summit also decided to set up a solidarity and prosperity fund to tackle socio-economic development in the sub-region. President Yar' Adua of Nigeria, President Yayi Boni of Benin and President Faure Nyasingbe of Togo were also at the summit. Vice President Mahama was met at the Airport by some government officials and senior military and police personnel. 22 July 09
