Vice President donates to Muslim communities

Accra, Aug 14, GNA- Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday called on Muslims to use the month of Ramadan (fasting) to educate the youth on the need for perpetual peace in the country.

"I know that this month of fasting is plagued with a lot of challenges, but I will urge you to live above reproach and let the people especially the youth know the essence of peace, not only during this period, but even after fast."

Vice President Mahama made this call when he donated assorted food items to Muslim communities at various locations in Accra.

The food items which include a total of 400 bags of rice, 250 bags of sugar and 75 cartons of milk were donated to the office of the chief Imam at Fadama, the Ah-lussuna Wal Jama and Rasoul Al- Akram mosque both at Nima.

Other beneficiaries of the donation are; Council of Muslim chiefs, Federation of Muslim Women Association of Ghana, Coalition of Muslim Organizations and Federation of the Muslim Council of Chief Imam.

Vice President Mahama said the donation was in accordance with the tradition of supporting the Muslims to provide adequate meals during the obligatory month of fasting.

He gave the assurance that the government would continue to support them to realize their religious ambitions and urged them to dedicate their lives to what the holy prophet Mohammed stood for.

At Fadama, Sheik Osumanu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the Vice President for socialising with them during the holy month, adding "we shall dedicate the month in praying for development, peace and tranquillity for our country".

Sheik Hajj Umar Imam, National Imam of the Ah-lussuna Wal Jama, promised to educate the youth against all the social vices because they could impede their orderly development.
