The Executive Director of Progressive Organisation for Women's Advancement (POWA), Victoria Lakshmi Hammah has placed a call to women to actively participate in the major policy sectors of our society.
This according to her will signify a commitment towards social justice, political and economic democracy.
Victoria Hammah who was speaking at the first POWA Forum at the British Council in Accra on Tuesday, October 31 advocated that more women at the forefront of politics “will provide the space for social education and rethinking.”
“It is much more than just symbolism. It will contribute immensely in reshaping the public psychic about the potential women in all spheres of life and a positive recognition of their status and dignity. It will motivate more women to stand up to the challenge in engaging in active public life,” she asserted.
Victoria Hammah who expressed her discontent towards the inadequate number of women in politics chastised the indifference at the national level for relegating them to playing marginal roles in society.
She charged social, political and cultural leaders to address the concerns of women and empower them to take enviable spots in the approach to national development.
The POWA Forum is essentially a platform designed to engage persons of diverse backgrounds in a series of conversations to facilitate the development of women.
It is uniquely positioned to initiate women’s interest conversations, as a means to generate national attention on gender topical issue discussions by engaging influential, inspirational, innovative and incisive thinkers from across genders, professions and careers.
In the course of its dialogues, The POWA Forum will bring to light the diversity and value of women, as well as explore readily accessible and applicable solutions to the many social, political, cultural and economic struggles that confront women on daily basis.
