Policy think tank, Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) has suggested that the existence of vigilante groups and their attacks on people, could be a ‘’a microcosm of terrorist groups’’.
A statement issued by STRANEK also condemned the attack by Delta Force-a vigilante group allegedly associated with the NPP on the newly appointed Regional Security Coordinator and the Council in Kumasi last week Friday.
The policy think tank is advocating that the activities of these groups be dealt with stringent hands.
The arrest of the leader of Delta Force the statement added ‘’ is not enough.
Such terrorist germinating groups must be banned in this country. The prima facie video footage is a solid rock to expedite action against those groups. Government must get to the bottom of this barbaric act or else the security apparatus of this country will be thrown to the dogs leading to the wobbling nature of the security of Ghanaians,’’ the statement indicated.
Below is the full statement: *VIGILANTE GROUPS ATTACKING SECURITY APPARATUS; A MICROCOSM OF TERRORIST GROUPS-STRANEK*
As part of our mission statement to foster the security of Ghanaians as well as to hold the security of this country in high esteem via advocacy and research, we mince no words in condemning a second time attack on security apparatus.
Few months ago, it was an assault on ASP Nii Nankan Bruce. This time, it is a vicious beating of a newly appointed Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator.
We at Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) view this unscrupulous act as a totally unacceptable modus operandi. Vandalizing the office of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in addition to the vicious beating of the security coordinator is beyond imagination.
This is undoubtedly a microcosm of terrorist groups and we must begin to shun these groups in the interest of the country. Per our independent research, this vigilante group who viciously beat the security coordinator with the reason of the fact that he is not a party member hence their dislike for him is aligned to a big political party. We at STRANEK say enough is enough.
This flagitious act which is trending on the international media, traditional media and social media must be dealt with stringent hands. Arresting the leader of the vigilante group is not enough.
Such terrorist germinating groups must be banned in this country. The prima facie video footage is a solid rock to expedite action against those groups.
Government must get to the bottom of this barbaric act or else the security apparatus of this country will be thrown to the dogs leading to the wobbling nature of the security of Ghanaians.
We are indeed all involved in building our motherland Ghana. Signed. Nii Tettey Tetteh Executive Director
