The founding Bishop of the Lighthouse Chapel International Dag Heward-Mills is lamenting the fact that virgins are getting extinct in modern society, especially in the church.

Decades ago being a virgin until marriage was touted as morality in the African culture, but the picture is different now – breaking one’s virginity before marriage, especially among teenagers has become a custom.

Some non-governmental organisations have bemoaned the high rate of sexual immorality in Ghana. It will be recalled one of the NGOs Attitude Productions instituted a competition to reward people who keep their virginity until marriage. “Any girl that keeps her virginity till marriage will be celebrated and the first set of virgins will be rewarded with brand new cars,” the leader of the NGO Prosper Ekekwe said.

Preaching in Durban, South Africa at the annual Harvest Convention of the Interfellowship Global Ministries recently, Dag Heward-Mills touched on the virtues of being a virgin and in a Facebook post said: “Today, a virgin is a rare thing to find in a church. The only virgins left in the world now are aeroplanes!”
