Virtual Reality Meets Tourism: Dobiison secures tourism license to boost revenue

Ghanaian tech and virtual reality company Dobiison has secured a tourism license from Ghana's Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to expand virtual tourism and help boost tourism revenue in the country.

Speaking with Ernestina Serwaa Asante on BizTech on GhanaWeb TV, Lazarus I. Adams, the company’s Business Development Manager, highlighted the growing demand for tourism in Africa, noting that the sector has proven to be a valuable asset to every economy.

Adams explained that with the rise of virtual reality, Ghana and other African countries have a unique opportunity to generate revenue for their governments and attract tourists and investors virtually.

“When it comes to tourism, you can actually tour via virtual reality without being physically present. As we sit here, we can immerse ourselves in Wli Falls without ever visiting it, right from the comfort of a headset or even a phone. Though the phone experience may not be as immersive as the headset, it still offers a glimpse. This is one of the ways we’re promoting tourism and culture using virtual reality,” he said.

He added that Dobiison is expanding its footprint across Africa and is working to secure licensing approvals from tourism authorities in other countries.

“We’ve received a license from the Ministry of Tourism in Ghana. We’re also connected with the Ministry of Tourism in Benin, and we’re awaiting approval from tourism ministries in other countries to document their tourist sites,” he revealed.
