Vocational training critical to human dev’t - MCE

Mr Ibrahim Baidoo, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has noted that technical and vocational training is critical requirement for human resource development.

He said, to this end, the municipal assembly in collaboration with the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training is sponsoring about 50 apprentices in auto-mechanic, garment, cosmetology, electrical, and carpentry.

Mr Baidoo made this known when he addressed the official opening of the first ordinary meeting of the first session of the third assembly at Ashaiman during the week.

He said in addition, the assembly would introduce Graduate Entrepreneurship Business Support Scheme, a private sector initiative aimed at equipping not less than 100 unemployed graduates each year with requisite competencies to enhance potentials for self-employment.

“In fulfillment of this vision, it is high time that we have to seriously consider seeking land for the creation of Artisan Village to identify and develop all the talents and potentials that abounds in the municipality so that the youth can be enrolled into gainful trade to better their future in life,” he said.

He said the assembly would also partner with Novaya Solar and Shinebone Development Foundation to bring solar to the people and institutions, particularly schools.

Mr Baidoo said the project would be piloted at the cluster of schools at Ashaiman and also give supply of energy to the community, to save the educational facilities from paying electricity bills whilst generating revenue.

“If the project becomes successful, it will be replicated in all the schools in the municipality and other part of the country.”

He said education is the bedrock for development and urged parents and guardians to enroll their wards in schools and that the assembly would complement the efforts of board of directors and the parent-teacher association to provide the necessary infrastructure.

He said the overall assessment of health service delivery showed positive indicators.

He said security and waste management have been major challenges facing the assembly and measures have been taken to ameliorate the crime rate.

He said a serious war must be waged against insanitary conditions by intensifying education on proper and acceptable sanitary practice whilst assuring the people of rigorous efforts in roads construction and street naming.
