Vodafone Ghana has announced a Christmas charity project dubbed: “Bring A Cheer To Your Community,” to be launched on December 16, for the underprivileged in the society.

Mrs Nana Yaa Ofori Koree, Foundation and Sustainability Manager of Vodafone Ghana, said at a news briefing that the new initiative would focus on children and orphans and also seek to improve the lives of people living in rural communities.

She said the project would focus on health, education and entrepreneurial development of the underprivileged in the 10 regions.

She called on non-governmental organisations that would like to be involved, to submit their entries.

Mrs Koree said Vodafone has a key role to play in the development of the country’s education and health, which the company had demonstrated through some innovations.

She cited programmes such as Vodafone Health Line, a television health show and Vodafone Health Fest, a free health screening programme which have been beneficial to more than 5,000 Ghanaians across the regions by providing free health screening for hypertension, hepatitis B, diabetes, HIV and others.

Vodafone also launched Ghana’s first medical call centre, “Healthline 255”, run by qualified doctors and nurses, to educate people against self-medication, encourage early diagnosis and treatment and to provide expert advice and dispel health myths.

Mrs Koree also made known that a number of projects including Ebola awareness and a Vodafone employee volunteerism campaign would be unveiled next week.
