Kaleo, (U/W), Jan. 8, GNA - An eight-week sanitation project, dubbed 93Environmental and Personal Cleanliness" is underway in Kaleo in the Nadowli District of the Upper West Region.

The project is among fifty other Vodafone World of Difference projects being undertaken simultaneously across the country by volunteers with sponsorship from the Vodafone Ghana Foundation.

Mr. Ishmael Ofosu Yeboah, a Vodafone World of Difference Volunteer, is partnering Honesty Youth Organisation (HYO) to implement the 93Environmental and Personal Cleanliness" project in the Kaleo community.

Addressing members of the community on Saturday after a vigorous communal clean up exercise in Kaleo, Mr. Yeboah appealed to the Nadowli District Assembly to provide the community with more communal rubbish containers to prevent the indiscriminate littering of the environment.

He said the community had a population of about 6,500 people with only one communal rubbish container, which was inadequate considering the high culture of littering by the people in the community.

As part of the implementation of the project, the volunteers also visited all the schools in Kaleo to sensitize the students on how to keep personal hygiene, especially the adolescent girls.

Mr. Yeboah noted that Vodafone through its World of Difference project sought to make a difference in the life of people living in rural communities.

Mr. Mohammed Ishau Abdul, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HYO, appealed to the community members to sustain the clean up exercise as it had the potential of reducing sanitation related diseases among the people.

He said an award would be given to one of the schools at the end of the project for maintaining environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene and urged all the schools to prepare themselves in order to win the award.

He thanked members of the community and staff of Zoomlion Ghana Limited for coming out in their numbers and ensuring that the exercise became a big success.

Alhaji Mohammed Yawri, a representative of the Kaleo Naa, thanked Vodafone and HYO for choosing Kaleo to benefit from the project and promised to ensure that the exercise was sustained.
