Voice of Nigeria to Partner ExLA Group for YAWC 2016

Voice of Nigeria (VON); the Official International Broadcasting Radio Network of Nigeria in a crunch meeting with Excellent Leadership Group’s (ExLA Group) Country Representative for Nigeria, Ms. Mercy Balami today, Thursdays 5th May, 2016 in Abuja, Nigeria, confirmed their full participation in the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2016 as a major media partner representing Nigeria.

Ms Balami explained, the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) is a Pan African Women Congress organised by ExLA Group under the auspices of ExLA Group Gender Programme (EGGP); the women and gender directorate of ExLA Group. The Young African Women Congress (YAWC), the flagship programme of the ExLA Group Gender Programme (EGGP) is a gathering of young and educated women between the ages of 20 and 31 years old across the continent to discuss issues of women in leadership. It comes at a time that the UN Women has published its report on the progress of women participation in economic and social development of their societies while the world gears up to accomplish the new targets set in the 2016 Sustainable Development Agenda.

Mrs Nelson Udo-Udo Edith Ifeoma Ibinye, Deputy Director and Head of Strategic Planning and Corporate Development, representing VON at the meeting intimated, the YAWC Congress is a laudable initiate by ExLA Group which falls in line with, VON’s mission of “Reflecting Nigerian and African perspective in our broadcast, winning and sustaining the attention, respect and goodwill of listeners worldwide particularly Nigerians and Africans in the Diaspora and making Nigeria’s Voice to be heard more positively in the shaping of our world”. VON therefore deems it most appropriate to partner the YAWC which is at the core of Women Empowerment on the continent and efforts towards attaining the Global SDG goals.

The Congress will be facilitated by accomplished and experienced African women leaders from all sectors of human endeavour for which notable Nigerian women are represented. The programme which comes off from Monday 4th- 8th July, 2016 at the University of Ghana, Accra – Ghana will engage the young women on various subject areas under the theme, “The Modern Woman Leader: Revising the Status Quo”, and set a new path that makes them even more relevant in the development agenda.

Ms. Balami in her concluding remarks invited all major stakeholders to partner EGGP in attaining the objectives set out for the YAWC. She also noted, registration for participants for the congress will begin next week on the YAWC Website and therefore encouraged Young Nigeria Women to register for the congress.
