The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has expressed frustration over inadequacies associated with alternative routes outlined between Accra and the region, following the closure of the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku for repair works.

The repair works is expected to last for about two years.

Addressing a general meeting of the House, its President, Togbe Afede the Fourteenth, asked the Ministry of Roads and Highways to conduct a study to improve the capacity of the ferry-crossing at Senchi.

He also called for work to be expedited on the completion of the Sogakope-Ho trunk road, a major alternative route to and from Accra.

Togbe Afede also called for the tarring of the Akuse-Senchi road because of the importance the road has assumed for people in the region following the closure.

Togbe Adjatekpor, Osie of Avatime, observed that no study was done to ease transportation difficulties for travelers to and from the region prior to the closure of the Adomi Bridge.

He said no efforts were made to reshape the alternative routes, that the Sogakope-Ho road lack “simple directional signs, ” to alert drivers about uncompleted bridges and other dangerous structures on that route.

Togbe Adjatekpor said government has become a target of “curses” by travelers out of frustration, adding that, “We are getting tired”.

Responding, Madam Helen Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister hinted that funds were being mobilized to get contractors back on the Sogakope-Ho road, and for the alternative route through Akuse to be improved
