Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, has launched the maiden Volta Journalists awards by the regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) with a call on journalists to promote government's transformation drive.

He said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo considered the media as the pivot of his “ambitious” transformation agenda and asked them to rise to the occasion and support efforts at industrialising the country.

Dr Letsa said the Volta region had exhibited strong leanings towards development with local assemblies readying themselves for government's “One District One Factory” initiative and asked the media to continue to project the potentials of the region.

He said quality human resource was key to development and pledged to ensure the region was made attractive to employees and services.

The award ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Ho has the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Eastern/Volta, as its title sponsor.

The "AGI-GJA" awards will celebrate Journalists who excel in Agriculture, Health, Tourism, Business and Economics, Disaster reporting and Sports.

It is on the theme, "Promoting the industrialisation of Volta Region: The role of the Media".

Mrs Lucy Tenkorang, Vice President, Eastern/ Volta AGI, said recognition was key to journalism and that the AGI would continue to cooperate in ensuring the highest standards of the profession.

Mr Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, Regional Chairman of the GJA said the Association realised the need to upscale its annual get-togethers into a “fully fledged” awards night celebration to provide an “opportunity for journalists in the region to be celebrated and recognised.”

He said the media in the region were awake to their responsibilities and ready to support the region's rapid industrialisation.

Members of the awards committee include Mr Kofi Akordor, Mr Ralph Avornyo, Mr Sepenyo Dzokoto and Madam Yvonne Odame Nti.
