A National Democratic Congress (NDC) Volta Regional Youth Wing-led scheme, to overwhelm other parties in 2016 elections is in the offing.
Mr Egypt Kudoto, Volta Regional Youth Organizer dropped the hint on Sunday in Ho during a leadership conference for the Tertiary Institutions Networks (TEIN) of the NDC in the Volta Region.
He said the target set under the scheme was 90 per cent and more win for the NDC’s Presidential Candidate in all the 26 constituencies in the region.
The conference attracted national officers of the party, including Mr Kofi Adams, National Organizer, Mr Koku Anyidoho, a Deputy-General Secretary, Mr Siidi Abubakar, National Youth Organizer, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Gomashie, Deputy Minister Culture and Creative Arts, and Mrs Joyce Bawa Mogtari, her Deputy, among others.
Mr Kudoto said the conference was meant to prepare the youth of the party for the “battle.”
“We are engaging our opponents on issues, and meeting them on all fronts, armed with the relevant information,” Mr Kudoto stated.
Colonel Cyril Necku (rtd), Deputy Volta Regional Chairman of the party said the 90 per cent win in all the constituencies there should translate into a one million vote gap between the NDC Presidential Candidate and the next candidate.
He conceded, however, that “it would be hard, the road there, muddy and rough, but we know, we would get there,” he stated.
Topics treated included “The NDC and Job Creation-Development, Challenges and Opportunities, Effective Organization for Election 2016-the Role of TEIN, Effective Political Communication and Strategy-Wining Hearts and Minds and Party Ideology in Perspective.”
Mr Anyidoho, speaking on Party Ideology, said the NDC as a Social Democratic Party, operates from the premise of sharing resources equitably, while those on the other side will “plunder.”
He said the armour of the NDC should be unity, team work and propriety.
Mr Adams who spoke on organization for the 2016 elections, urged TEIN members not to limit their activities as individuals and groups to their campuses, and also eschew complaints.
He said the initiative to widen decision-making process to reach more and more registered members was on-going.
Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Minister at the Presidency, said TEIN members must have credible and insightful messages for the people to make the right impact.
Mr Abubakr said TEIN was set up to catch supporters young, so that they would remain for a long time, but agreed there were challenges they must brace up for.
Mrs Bawa-Mogtari said President Mahama’s programme of transformational infrastructure development in all sectors of the economy was opening up opportunities for jobs, and that the times of ready jobs at government agencies for school leavers were gone.
She said TEIN, as the intellectual wing of the NDC, must be visible, members explaining how these projects impacted communities.
Mrs Bawa-Mogtari mentioned the revolutionary development spurs of the Eastern Corridor road and the high speed internet connectivity projects, as examples.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Volta Regional Minister, urged TEIN members across the region, to criss-cross the region to tell the success story of President Mahama’s administration.
