The leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region have made a passionate appeal to the Electoral Commission to add some days to the on-going registration exercise in the area.
The registration exercise, which started today, Monday, June 17th and would end on Sunday, July 7th, would start from 0700 hours to 1800 hours on each day and would include weekends.
The Electoral Commission is projecting to register 700,000 Ghanaians who have attained the age of 18 and those who could not register in the last exercise.
In a statement issued and signed by the Regional Communications Officer, S. Kafui Agbleze, copied to the media said power outages are affecting the registration exercise in the Region.
The statement disclosed that "There was power outages in the Region on Tuesday 18th June 2019 at 4:30 pm and returned to normalcy on Wednesday 8pm in the evening, this has affected the registration exercise in most areas of the region".
The statement explained "PDS in a communiqué on Tuesday 18th June said "power distribution services (PDS) Ghana limited wishes to inform customers within Oti and Volta regions that the current outage being experienced today Tuesday, 18th June 2019 is due to a challenge within GRIDCo's incomer line between Asiekpe and Ho".
The statement continued that "The communiqué by PDS is a testament to the fact that there were difficulties with the registration exercise in Volta on Tuesday and Wednesday which is not the doing of those who wish to register".
The party is therefore, appealing to the Electoral Commission to extend the number of days for the registration exercise in the area to compensate for the hours lost due to the power outages.

EXTEND THE REGISTRATION EXERCISE IN VOLTA
The limited registration which started on Monday 17th and to end on 7 July 2019 is taking place in the Volta Region however with some challenges.
There was power outages in the Region on Tuesday 18th June 2019 at 4:30 pm and returned to normalcy on Wednesday 8pm in the evening, this has affected the registration exercise in most areas of the region.
PDS in a communiqué on Tuesday 18th June said "power distribution services (PDS) Ghana limited wishes to inform customers within Oti and Volta regions that the current outage being experienced today Tuesday, 18th June 2019 is due to a challenge within GRIDCo's incomer line between Asiekpe and Ho".
The communiqué by PDS is a testament to the fact that there were difficulties with the registration exercise in Volta on Tuesday and Wednesday which is not the doing of those who wish to register.
We therefore call on Madam Jean Mensah and the electoral commission to extend the number of days for the registration exercise in Oti and Volta to compensate for the hours lost due to the power outages in the region as confirmed by PDS.
