Accra, June 25, GNA - The Sankofa Convention Peoples Movement of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has called on delegates to remain confident and not allow their votes to be bought.

"The tradition of vote-buying is alien to Nkrumahist and therefore the CPP delegates must exorcise the demon come July and stop it from rearing its ugly head ever again," a statement signed by Mr Kwabena Adjei, Co-ordinator of the Movement said.

It stated that the Founder of the party, Dr Kwame Nkrumah was not a vote-buyer and wondered why persons who claimed they are custodians of his ideology for social justice are buying votes?

"Such politicians are sowing the seeds of instability in the CPP by destroying moral values, a very important human value that serves as an anchor of stability in our civilisation," it stressed.

The statement advised party executives to think about the development of the people rather than fighting and spending money to seek and maintain positions.

Delegates should show commitment and determination to surmount the difficulties so that Ghanaians would be clothed better, fed better, sheltered better and assured employment, personal dignity, cultural and spiritual advancement, it said.

The Movement called on the delegates to support Ms Samia Nkrumah who would bring about the expected rebuilding of the party to create and sustain a level of economic development capable of ensuring a higher standard of living, proper education, good health and cultural development of the people.

"Our democracy must not be reduced to vote-buying. Vote-buying tends to be carried out where parties are weak, with elections centred on candidates rather than parties, and where traditions of patronage are engrained."
